Dear friends,

A competition?

yes, willingly, but in slightly different manner. Here's our proposal:

1. Before the competition starts, we will upload an excerpt of English Horn solo, played by a top professional. Twenty-four bars or so.
2. All purchasers of the Oboe/English Horn will be entitled to enter the contest.
3. The participants will provide us with one MP3 plus the relative MIDI of the same tune, played with the SWAM English Horn, with the aim of imitating the original excerpt as closely as possible.
4. Each MP3 will be labeled with a code number, and will be published anonymously after an established deadline.
5. All registered forum members will be allowed to post one vote, choosing the sequence best imitating the real thing.
6. The first three winners (those getting most votes) will receive a substantial prize.

Kind regards,

Giorgio & Peter

This is going to be fun ! Do you intend to prevent any use of reverb ? Or will mix skills (and gear) also be a part of the contest ?

And by the way, when is this new instrument out ?

We're starving out here !

No external gear, either hardware or software, will be allowed. The instrument must be played out of the box.

One may however modify all the settings available in the main and the options page, even in a dynamic manner for those parameters mapped to a CC. Automation is not allowed, though.

The static settings should be saved in a preset, and provided to us along with the MP3and the MIDI files. The output of the instrument, loaded with this preset and driven by the MIDI should be identical to the provided MP3.

The instruments are currently submitted to extensive beta testing.

Sounds interesting!

Just to be clear, what's the difference in modifying the CCs in a dynamic manner and automation?

The midi file, once played with the instrument loaded with the corresponding preset, must sound exactly like the MP3.

This is not possible if automation is used, since the links cannot be stored in a preset.

Morover the automation data is not included in the MIDI file.

Just to be sure to be understood : i'm just a customer. I don't know anything about the oboe and if it's ready to be released. All I was trying to say, in some sort of indirect way, is that we want it NOOOOOOWWWW !!

Godammit !
