Questions About Arco And Pizzicato; Up And Down Bow

Post by GTBannah » Sat Jul 01, 2017 1:20 am

Hello!

I'm using the TEC Breath controller with the Viola. It works well, and will work better as I get more comfortable with the process.

When I connect the TEC, many of the key switches disappear, as is probably logical. The ones that remain, however don't seem to do much.

1) Can I assign one of them to switch between Arco and Pizzicato?

2) As I play, the bow only seems to move in one direction; down. Is the instrument supposed to automatically alternate between up and down bowings? How does that work, or, how can I get it to work?

I use the Cello with the TEC BBCv2.

I don't see that the Key switches would "disappear". When exactly do you suggest they do that ?

By default (I suppose, but maybe I tweaked it) the hold pedal and a key switch reverse the bowing direction.

The SWAM Strings feature a "Bowing Mode" to directly control the bow movement. But same does not make sense with a Breath controller.

Thank you for the response, Michael!

This link will show you some of the combinations that I have been using, and the results I've been getting, or NOT getting.

https://youtu.be/kbRAeb9lxfg

The "C" changes the play mode to "Col Legno", while the "D" changes the bow gesture from "expression" to "bowing". The other keys do nothing.

I have to stop and click the arrows in play mode to get back to "Bowed", and the gestures to get back to "Expression".

Any ideas?

@GTBannah, please read carefully the User Manual at the section "Keyswitches", as they are a little bit more complex as usual Keyswitches.
First, they are sensible to the velocity of selected key itself.
Moreover, some of them act immediately, others act at the next note-on and others only at the next detached note (as in the case of the Play Mode).

The latest version of the SWAM Manuals is always available at http://www.swamengine.com/manuals
